What is Reiki?
The name Reiki, pronounced ''Ray-key'' comes from the Japanese words ''rei'' meaning spirit,
and ''ki'' meaning energy. It is usually translated as ''universal life energy.''
Reiki is a gentle, noninvasive holistic energy healing system that yields powerful results for
the body, mind and spirit. When using Reiki to heal, the practitioner channels healing energy
through her hands to the client either directly or from a distance.
Once considered a very alternative treatment, Reiki is now being taught in many nursing
schools alongside more conventional treatments. The National Institute of Health (NIH) even
conducted a recent study on Reiki.
It is ideal for use with animals because with Reiki, the animal controls the treatment,
accepting Reiki in the ways that are most comfortable. Animals respond very well to Reiki
either by touch or a short distance. Reiki always goes to the source of the problem and always
works for the highest good.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not religious, nor does it contradict any religion. Reiki
complements other healing methods and spiritual practices .
Reiki Session With Animals
Reiki provides healing energy for animals of all kinds. Dogs, cats, horses, farm animals, small
animals, even fish, snakes, turtles and birds.
I will move the energy (also known as Ch'i or Ki) through my client's body (dog, cat or human) to
balance its energy and clear blockages. Reiki is a non-invasive, healing session. Reiki
complements conventional western medicine without interfering with it.
I will work with your animal companion at any place that is convenient for you and your
companion. I begin by being a minimum of 5-10 feet away from the animal rather than hands on,
this way the animal is comfortable and able to receive the energy. When the animal is ready for
hands-on healing he/she will move closer to me so they can be touched. I also work outside a
kennnel or in other large spaces so the animal can be relaxed and move toward me to receive
the energy at their own pace.
I always ask your companion if they wish to receive Reiki. Because I have had many
animals of my own I fully understand the need of compassion for and respect of the animal
that will benefit from energy healing. Sometimes it will take 30 minutes to an hour for the
animals to settle into the first treatment, but in subsequent treatments they usually will settle
into a relaxed state more quickly.
I always work in conjunction with and to support the work of licensed veterinarians.
What a great way to treat your companion and tell him you love him!
